2017 Bali 4.0 — The Ultimate Cruising Catamaran
Designed by Xavier Fay and built with Bali’s trademark open-living concept, the Bali 4.0 blends spacious comfort, modern cruising capability, and smart sailing design into a compact 40-footer that feels far larger at sea.
Core Performance & Dimensions
LOA: ~11.93 m / 39.1 ft
Beam: ~6.72 m / 22.1 ft
Draft: ~1.12 m / 3.5-3.7 ft
Displacement: ~8.6 t light, up to ~11.2 t loaded
CE Category: A – up to ~10 persons
Fuel: ~400 L • Water: ~800 L
The overall design emphasizes stability and liveability — ideal for coastal cruising or long island-hopping passages.
⛵ Sail & Rig
Total sail area: ~96–105 m² (1035–1130 ft²) depending on configuration
Mast: Tall rig designed for performance and balance
Spinnakers: Two new asymmetrical spinnakers included (significant sail wardrobe upgrade)
With the addition of dual spinnakers, your Bali isn’t just a cruiser — it’s a capable performer on offshore reaches and downwind passages.
Drive & Power
Engines: Twin Volvo Penta D2 diesels (typically ~40 hp each) for reliable maneuvering and fuel efficiency
Generator: Onan genset installed — ideal for true live-aboard comfort with extensive electrical loads
Watermaker: Installed — gives near-continuous freshwater generation for extended cruising
These systems make the Bali 4.0 genuinely self-sufficient offshore, perfect for live-aboard cruising or extended adventures.
Electronics & Navigation
Upgraded Raymarine electronics suite (chartplotter, multi-function displays)
Raymarine instruments & autopilot — robust sailing instrumentation and course management
Fusion stereo system — premium entertainment throughout salon/cockpit
This setup supports confident navigation and entertainment on long passages or while at anchor.
Comfort & Livability
The Bali 4.0 shines with an innovative open living space — an entire cockpit that merges with the saloon via a large electric “garage-door” bulkhead that lifts to create a single great room at sea level.
Highlights include:
Air conditioning throughout — essential in tropical or warm climates
Spacious galley and salon with panoramic views
Forward deck lounge and aft cockpit for sunbathing & socializing
Achilles 9 ft tender with a 9.9 hp Mercury outboard — perfect for shore runs or exploring secluded anchorages
Windlass anchor for easy ground tackle handling
Together, these create a live-aboard quality of life that’s rare in the 40-foot range — more like a floating villa than a sailboat.
Accommodation
Layouts vary (3–4 cabins with 3–4 heads are common), making the Bali 4.0 flexible for:
family cruising
couple-centric owner voyages
charter use
Whether hosting friends for weekend sailing or settling in for a season, the interior feels far larger than the footprint suggests.
Lifestyle Experience
Owning or cruising a 2017 Bali 4.0 with your spec means:
True remote cruising freedom with watermaker, genset, and AC
Premium sail wardrobe including spinnakers — fun and fast sailing options
Comfort for extended living aboard whether exploring the Caribbean, Med, or Pacific
A modern catamaran that feels like a home — bright, open, and effortless to live with day-to-day
It’s the kind of boat that transforms weekends into mini-holidays and long passages into effortless cruising adventures.

Andrew Hodgdon at The Multihull Company was instrumental in our recent boat purchase. Andrew’s experience with performance catamarans was a key reason why we were comfortable and his straightforward communication style was very much appreciated when so much is at stake. We had a very fast viewing to close timeline on the other side of the country and Andrew always took our calls and responded quickly even with time differences which mattered a lot. We’re very happy with the outcome and Andrew played a crucial role.
I chose Zee (Zvonimir Kalinic) after posting an ad for a broker on Yacht Sales from about 15 other brokers because he showed professionalism and care right away compared to the others. Most of the brokers never intended to show people my boat but yet somehow expected to collect commission. Zee met me in Novigrad and spent 3 hours taking photos and drone footage and throughout the listing period was communicating continuously and advising me about any offers that came through. His service was at a high standard that I was extremely happy with and felt comfortable at all times especially since I’m in Sydney and my boat is in Montenegro. I can’t recommend Zee highly enough to anyone looking to sell their boat with peace of mind.
The brokerage team has been amazing. They helped me find the right catamaran for our family of four, with enough space for extended family and friends to stay with us anytime. The broker really helped me narrow down what I needed. I started with a long list and eventually narrowed it down to something that was the right fit and price for me.
