MOTIVATED SELLER
Introduction
BLUE MOON is the highly sought-after Owner’s Version of the Catana 581, a yacht widely respected for combining genuine offshore performance with exceptional comfort for long-distance cruising and liveaboard life.
Built using Catana’s lightweight foam-sandwich composite construction with carbon reinforcement in high-load areas, carbon spars and lifting daggerboards, she delivers the sailing performance for which the Catana name is renowned while providing spacious, practical accommodation for extended cruising.
Extensively upgraded under her current ownership, BLUE MOON benefits from twin 2022 Yanmar 110HP engines, a 2022 Onan generator, replacement standing rigging, recent Crusader sails, Gori folding propellers, an extensive Victron lithium electrical system, approximately 2.25kW of solar generation, Starlink High Performance satellite communications, a Seawater Pro watermaker and numerous mechanical, electrical and structural improvements completed during 2025 and 2026.
Following these upgrades, she completed an Atlantic crossing from Greece to Trinidad in early 2026 before continuing safely through the Caribbean to Cartagena, demonstrating the offshore capability for which the Catana 581 has earned its reputation as a highly regarded bluewater performance cruising catamaran.
For buyers seeking a proven offshore cruising yacht, BLUE MOON represents an opportunity to acquire a particularly well-equipped Catana which has benefited from substantial recent investment in her machinery, rigging, electrical systems and structure.
Broker’s Comments
BLUE MOON was acquired by her current owner in August 2025 following a pre-purchase survey and has since benefited from substantial mechanical, electrical, rigging and structural investment.
Replacement standing rigging was completed in Greece during October 2025. Professional composite repairs to the port coachroof-to-bulkhead connection and an adjoining section of the forward deck were completed in May 2026 using epoxy, carbon fibre, Nida core and biaxial fibreglass construction in accordance with the contractor’s documented lay-up schedule. This was followed by an independent rig inspection in June 2026.
The exterior teak has also recently been resanded and stained, substantially improving its presentation.
BLUE MOON is currently benefiting from a further programme of routine maintenance and refurbishment, including mechanical servicing, electrical work, air-conditioning maintenance, local cosmetic fibreglass and gelcoat repairs, joinery and stainless-steel work, together with removal and rebedding of a saloon window to address a minor leak. The seller expects this programme to be substantially completed before returning to the yacht in October 2026.
Importantly, a comprehensive documentation package accompanies BLUE MOON. This includes the July 2025 pre-purchase survey, a detailed current reconciliation of the survey observations and subsequent works, together with contractor invoices, structural documentation, rigging certification and other supporting technical records.
This survey, reconciliation and supporting technical documentation are available to genuinely interested purchasers upon request.

Bridgedeck Saloon
The starboard saloon window has had a minor leak and is due to be removed, rebedded and reinstalled as part of the seller’s ongoing maintenance programme.
Galley and Domestic Equipment
The air-conditioning system has previously benefited from refurbishment, including repair of three fan units and replacement of one. Further investigation and maintenance of the air-conditioning forms part of the seller’s current maintenance programme.
Machinery
Routine engine servicing, including oil and filters, together with reinstallation of an alternator attachment, forms part of the seller’s current maintenance programme.
Generator, Electrical and Solar
The electrical system has been substantially upgraded to provide extensive long-range off-grid capability. A comprehensive Victron installation, large-capacity lithium battery bank and extensive solar generation provide substantial independence from shore power while supporting domestic systems, selected air-conditioning loads and other onboard equipment.
Further local wiring tidying and relocation forms part of the current maintenance programme.
Tankage and Water Systems
A further replacement water pump forms part of the seller’s current maintenance programme.
Rig and Deck Equipment
The Catana 581’s carbon spar package and lifting daggerboards are central to her sailing performance. BLUE MOON further benefits from replacement standing rigging completed in 2025, together with continued investment in the deck gear and steering systems.
Replacement standing rigging was professionally completed during October 2025 and certified by the attending rigger. An independent inspection carried out on 9 June 2026 reported the principal rig components in good condition, noting localised chafe to the mainsail halyard near its dead-end fitting.

Composite Work
Professional composite repairs were completed in May 2026 to the port coachroof-to-bulkhead connection and an adjoining section of the forward deck.
The affected structure was rebuilt using epoxy resin, unidirectional carbon fibre, Nida core, biaxial fibreglass and a gelcoat finish following the contractor’s documented lay-up schedule.
The work included removal of the affected material, replacement of approximately 0.75m² of deck core and reinforcement of the repaired structure using modern composite construction techniques.
The contractor’s detailed lay-up schedule, invoice and supporting documentation are available for inspection.
Separate from the above documented repair, the seller reports that local cosmetic fibreglass, finishing and gelcoat work is currently being undertaken to address a number of smaller cracks, dings and similar exterior items. The seller has specifically advised that these are local repairs rather than a newly discovered major structural issue.
Ownership and Exclusions
BLUE MOON was owned from new in Peru before a long period of American ownership. Her current owner acquired the yacht in August 2025.
Personal effects, clothing and surfboards are excluded from the sale.

I recently sold my Lagoon 450 with the Multihull Team. I would highly recommend their services. The professionalism and personal treatment I received was greatly appreciated.
Great Service, Great People
Helped me through the process.
I would go through them again in a future purchase.
The Multihull Company made the process of buying our boat easy and predictable. Both our agent (Francisco Montaner) and Andrew Holland communicated well and educated/informed us of each step in the process. I highly recommend The Multihull Company for those shopping for a catamaran!
Chuck at The Multihull Company is the real deal.
He helped us find our Lagoon 40 after genuinely listening to what we needed, not just what he had to sell. He let us visit the boat multiple times, answered every question honestly, and helped us make a confident decision on a major purchase.
What impressed us most was the post-sale support. Once the paperwork was signed, Chuck was still picking up the phone, offering referrals, and helping us work through the early stages of liveaboard life. That kind of follow-through is rare.
If you are looking for a multihull and want someone who knows the boats and actually cares about the outcome, Chuck is the person to call.
We just purchased a 2025 Nautitech 44 Open with The Multihull Company. The process of getting here has been great, and we could not have asked for a better agent. We worked with Conor, whom we met at the 2025 Cannes Boat Show. We started our search for a cruising catamaran in Florida at the beginning of the year. We spent a couple of months looking at different boats/models within our price range and quickly narrowed it down to what really mattered to us, in part thanks to the wealth of knowledge and expertise our broker provided. When we found a perfect match in Montenegro, Conor and The Multihull Company did not hesitate to continue supporting us and to lead the efforts from start to finish with great care and transparency. Communication and support have been outstanding throughout this entire process. Conor, in particular, showed great compassion and care, going above and beyond to ensure that no stone was left unturned and that we would be able to safely and happily sail off into our big adventure.
Successful relationships cannot exist without it. At The Multihull Company we base every relationship on a firm commitment to earning and retaining our client’s trust.
Advice of any kind is valuable only when grounded in hard-won expertise. It too, must be trustworthy. Trust and expertise define the heart and soul of The Multihull Company. We are a team of skilled professionals who thrive on providing expert, trustworthy advice and service to catamaran and trimaran sailors around the globe.
