Offered for sale is this 2001 SportsCat 44, an Australian-built performance power catamaran designed for efficient cruising, offshore capability, and comfortable extended stays aboard.
Built by SportsCat Construction on Australia’s Gold Coast, the SportsCat 44 combines a stable multihull platform with high-performance propulsion and excellent shallow-water capability. Produced in limited numbers, these boats offer a distinctive alternative to conventional cruising powerboats.
This particular SportsCat 44 has a history of serious cruising. A previous owner successfully completed approximately half of the Great Loop aboard the vessel, demonstrating its practical cruising capability and offshore-oriented design.
Power comes from twin Yanmar 420 HP 6LY2(M)-STE/STP diesel engines, coupled to ZF 2-speed transmissions and Sea Rider surface drives by Levi of Italy. The vessel reportedly cruises at approximately 22 mph and can reach speeds of up to approximately 32 mph.
The combination of surface drives, a lightweight performance-oriented catamaran hull, and inboard lifting chines provides an efficient and stable platform with excellent access to shallow water—well suited to coastal cruising, island hopping, and exploring areas where conventional deep-draft boats may be limited.

Sea Rider Surface Drives
The Sea Rider surface-drive system provides an efficient and compact propulsion arrangement while offering excellent shallow-water capability.
Tunnel rudders and semicircular propeller shields help provide maneuverability and propeller protection. The surface-drive configuration also allows the boat to operate in shallow water, making this SportsCat particularly well suited for coastal cruising and island exploration.
The vessel's inboard lifting chines are fiberglassed inside the hulls and are designed to improve lift, reduce drag, and contribute to stability and efficiency at speed.
