PINK FLAMINGO is a 2017 Lagoon 450 F cruising catamaran, currently lying in Panama, extensively equipped for independent liveaboard and bluewater cruising.
Her specification majors on energy independence and self-sufficiency, with approximately 3,700W of solar generation, including six 415W SunPower panels installed as part of a substantial 2024 electrical upgrade, 3 x Epoch 12V 460Ah lithium domestic batteries providing approximately 1,380Ah nominal capacity, Victron MultiPlus inverter/charger, Cerbo GX monitoring and GX Touch 70 display, together with a Seawater Pro watermaker producing approximately 35 US gallons per hour.
Significant recent expenditure is another important feature. Under her current ownership, PINK FLAMINGO was being prepared not for resale, but for the owners’ own long-term cruising plans, including a South Pacific crossing and eventual circumnavigation. Systems and equipment were therefore upgraded with particular emphasis on reliability, self-sufficiency and longevity.
A substantial programme undertaken by Just Catamarans in Florida during 2024 included electrical, solar, battery, navigation, communications, saildrive and rigging work. The supporting invoice for this programme totals approximately US$110,000.
Structurally, the yacht’s forward bulkhead reinforcement is particularly well documented. Lagoon has certified that the work was undertaken by Dream Yacht Charter and completed on 20 November 2023 following Lagoon’s own reinforcement methodology, as validated by VPLP, naval architects and designers of the Lagoon 450.
Subsequent work has included replacement of the compression post, major saildrive work including replacement saildrive legs, Coppercoat application, gelcoat work, replacement cabin hatches, upgraded B&G electronics and extensive systems improvements.
Cruising equipment includes an approximately 12ft x 12ft hardtop and a custom full lower-cockpit enclosure completed in March 2026, together with a 2017 Highfield 390 Sport tender powered by a Honda 40hp outboard.
The original Mase generator was removed under the current ownership after it ceased operating correctly. Although the owners initially intended to install a replacement, their subsequent investment in solar generation and lithium battery capacity proved sufficiently effective that they found a permanently installed generator generally unnecessary for their Caribbean cruising. A small portable generator was carried as occasional backup for battery charging during prolonged periods of insufficient solar generation.
PINK FLAMINGO therefore presents as a particularly interesting Lagoon 450 F for buyers seeking a catamaran already substantially equipped and developed for extended independent cruising rather than a standard production specification.
Broker’s Comments
PINK FLAMINGO is a particularly interesting Lagoon 450 F for the long-distance cruising market because much of the expenditure involved in developing a standard production catamaran into a genuinely self-sufficient cruising yacht appears already to have been undertaken.
Her current owners did not carry out this programme with resale in mind. Their intention was to live onboard, cross the South Pacific and ultimately circumnavigate. That distinction matters. The approximately 3,700W solar installation, 3 x Epoch 460Ah lithium batteries, Victron power management, Seawater Pro watermaker, large Highfield tender and numerous systems improvements were selected for extended personal use rather than simply to add items to a sales inventory.
The generator history provides a useful illustration of that approach. The original Mase generator was not operating correctly when the owners purchased PINK FLAMINGO and was removed with the intention of installing a replacement. Following the substantial development of the solar and lithium systems, however, the owners found during their Caribbean cruising that a permanently installed generator was generally unnecessary. They carried a small portable generator as backup for periods of prolonged poor solar generation, but report that it was rarely required.
There is now increasingly good documentation behind the wider refit story.
The forward bulkhead reinforcement is supported by Lagoon’s own Warranty Certificate, confirming that the work was undertaken by Dream Yacht Charter in November 2023 following Lagoon methodology validated by VPLP.
A substantial Just Catamarans programme followed during 2024, supported by an invoice totalling approximately US$110,000. Amongst the documented work are major additions to the solar and lithium installation, Victron power management, B&G autopilot and communications equipment, saildrive servicing and rigging work.
The 2024 independent survey is also useful historical evidence. No osmotic laminate blistering was sighted, hull percussion and moisture observations were normal where tested, and the surveyor described the engine compartment as clean and indicative of considerable care. The survey was carried out while the owners were still undertaking a significant upgrade programme and specifically noted their pride of ownership.
That programme did not stop in 2024. The compression post was replaced in 2025, major further saildrive work including replacement legs followed, and the extensive 2026 Panama yard period included mechanical and systems maintenance, gelcoat work, a new lower-cockpit enclosure and Coppercoat application. All cabin hatches have also subsequently been renewed.
For a yacht lying in Panama, the resulting specification is particularly relevant. PINK FLAMINGO is positioned at the crossroads of the Caribbean and Pacific cruising grounds and has the energy generation, battery capacity, watermaking capability and tender arrangement expected by buyers contemplating extended periods away from marinas.
There remain areas in which an individual buyer may choose to add to the specification. Most notably, PINK FLAMINGO presently has no permanently installed generator or radar. Her electrical system has, however, been developed around substantial solar and lithium capacity, while generator support equipment is already installed should a future owner wish to add a permanent generator.
