About

En route to Europe ~ May 2021

Owner of Orion is motivated to sell her at this time and looking for serious offers with trade proposals considered! She is in top condition and replacement cost would be well over $8 million. We think she is the best deal on the market at this time for a performance voyaging catamaran in this size range.

For someone wanting to turn her into a profit making charter cat there is a very simple way to take her from a 6 guest charter cat to a 12 guest charter cat. She could quickly be changed into a profit machine, and would stand out in the world of charter cats as the Grand Dame of true sailing machines.

ORION is a marvel to behold, unique in every respect and represents thousands and thousands of hours of design and construction technique. She is unquestionably the finest Catana ever built and very likely the finest catamaran of her size ever built!

Unlike so many custom catamaran projects, cooked up by men with big dreams, big budgets, but little experience, Orion was built for a seasoned seaman who owned two previous catamarans, including a Catana 582 that he sailed around the world. He knew what it was like to live on a cat, voyage on a cat, care for a cat and sail a cat through massive seas and winds. He set out in partnership with Christophe Barreau, the famed naval architect for Catana, to create his dream boat. It took thousands of hours to design Orion and many more thousands to build her.

Orion is a tried and true blue water luxury cat. The crew sails her conservatively and average about250 miles a day during her many ocean passages. Her best one day run to date is 310 miles. She will saileasily in the high teens while in protected waters, and the crew throttles her back to 12-15K while oceansailing.

Orion has been in light charter in Europe and the Caribbean and is US Imported and thus able to charterin US waters.

Phil Berman was in France to personally inspect Orion and met with her build captain who lived in Canet(near the Catana factory) during the construction of the yacht to oversee every aspect of her build. Whatis most striking when you first approach Orion is that she looks almost identical to smaller Barreaudesigned Catana 65's and 50's, but sits off the water so high that, yes, she has two floors in her tall hulls -a first in catamarans!

This has two unique advantages. First, all of the technical equipment is under the floor, out in the open where the crew can simply walk up to the pumps, water maker, etc... making maintenance a breeze.

Second, all of the above floor space is open and used simply for the crew and guests. There is not one cupboard filled with an air conditioning unit or any other equipment. Instead, all of the cabin space is for guests and the technical equipment is below the floor. The crew reports that this has worked out wonderfully and cannot imagine going back to a standard catamaran.

The bridge deck of the yacht hosts a massive salon and galley. The enormous hulls contain owner's cabins, guest cabins and crew quarters while the lower floor of the yacht is devoted entirely to systems: watermakers, generators, inverters, wiring, plumbing, etc.

Every system on the yacht is easily accessed for care and repair. Orion is the most carefully thought out large catamaran I have ever had the pleasure to inspect regarding her systems and of course like all Catana cats she sports a massive carbon fiber mast, high tech sails, dagger boards and more!

You could not possibly upgrade Orion in a single area because not a penny was spared during her fabrication.

Please contact our office for her exact location to arrange a showing!

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.
