BALANCE 482: SHES DESIGNED FOR CRUISERS UNWILLING TO SACRIFICE SPEED
Our trend setting circumnavigator was awarded Best Multihull by Sailing World and Best Performance Catamaran by Cruising World in 2022. Shes a scaled down version of our famous Balance 526, winner of the Cape to Rio race in 2023.
With her carbon reinforced foam core hulls, dual daggerboards, and powerful sail plan the 482 is a sheer pleasure to sail. She ghosts along in the lightest of breezes while others are burning diesel. Upwind she points high, with little leeway, in the 7 to 10 knot range with her high aspect daggerboards. Reaching she blasts along between 8 and 14 knots with ease. If you really want to crank her up in surfing conditions the current record for a 482 is 28 knots.
SPEED AND EASE OF OPERATION
The 482 is fast, but how does she balance the need for speed with the reality of single-handed sailing? Her self-tending blade jib makes tacking a simple matter of turning over the helm. All of her reefing and sail management takes place at the upper helm station. With her dual furling headsails, electric winches, and mainsheet system that operates without a traveler, her ease of sailing is remarkable.
CARBON CROSS PERFORMANCE HULLS
We are Carbon Fiber experts at Balance and use E-glass (a Silica -based fiber) with significant carbon-fiber reinforcement in the high-load areas of our 482 hulls and decks. Every Balance 482 is hand-laminated and vacuum-bagged with closed cell thermo-formed foam cores.
GORGEOUS INTERIOR DESIGN AND FINISH
With her owner-version configuration, the Balance 482 easily accommodates six people. And Balances innovative salon table converts into a queen-size bed so you can always host another couple. It is also a place to hang out, read a book, or sleep when your partner is on watch. Her master shower aft is luxurious.
The 482 sports 610 of headroom, boasts a large U-shaped galley, and offers more real wood, hand crafted cabinetry, than any performance catamaran of her size and class. Each 482 we build is a unique piece of art - our customers choose their wood, their flooring, their fabric and their countertops.
Shes a pleasure to move about on whether thats cooking, sleeping, lounging, bathing, dining or entertaining friends and family. There is a place to store everything on the 482, and a lot of places to just hang out and relax. You can pilot her up top in fair weather, pilot her down in the cold, you can lounge and read inside or outside, turn your tables into beds, into dining tables, into pleasure nooks for reading or watching the latest film.

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.
