Phillip Berman, The Multihull Company Founder
Welcome to the Multihull Company. My name is Phillip Berman and I am the president and founder of the company as well as a lifetime catamaran sailor and racer.

I grew up racing Hobie Cats in California in the late 1960’s and published my first book on catamaran racing at the age of seventeen, MULTIHULL RACING THE HOBIE CATS (Sea Publications, NY.). I went on to write many more books on the subject including the best-selling catamaran training manual of all time, CATAMARAN SAILING FROM START TO FINISH (W. W. Norton, NY, 1982.). While a graduate student at Harvard, where I studied philosophy and religion, I represented the U.S. in numerous international sailing races and was the Hobie Cat World Champion in 1979 and 1980. I have continued to race and sail catamarans all over the world, including my own 41-foot offshore racing cat Spectris, and, a bit more recently, my Farrier 43 catamaran, Wake Up.

Shortly after leaving graduate school, in 1982, I spent many years as the writer of books on beliefs, values, and ethics, and lectured and consulted widely in the United States on corporate ethics policies. Some of the more noted books I authored or edited over the years include the Kennedy Book Award nominated THE COURAGE OF CONVICTION (Ballantine Books, 1986), The Search for Meaning (Ballantine Books, 1990), and the New York Times bestseller, with Dr. Jane Goodall, Reason for Hope (Warner, 1998), which was featured in a globally aired one hour PBS documentary I co-produced with Minneapolis Public TV.

In 1999, to the surprise of many, I decided I needed to return to the sea, that the writer’s life was simply too solitary and sedentary for my personality. I longed to return to my roots on the water and The Multihull Company began. Over these years I have sold hundreds of catamarans, and have attended, on average, some thirty surveys a year. I have also visited every major catamaran shipyard in the world and understand exactly how each and every major brand builds their boats – the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have learned a great deal about how our clients use their boats, how yacht sales can and should be managed safely and professionally, and about the many mistakes buyers and sellers can so often make when buying new or used multihulls.

I share with you all of this for one reason: I love sailing, racing and cruising multihulls. And that is why I created this company, to share that passion with as many sailors as I possibly could. I wanted you to know a bit about me because at The Multihull Company, we want to spend some time getting to know you, your yachting needs, your ambitions so that we can help you find just the right yacht for your needs, just the right match.

We Are Very Good At What We Do

We find clients great catamarans and trimarans every day. And we are very good at it because we focus on our passion – catamarans and trimarans. Our company started its life as a firm focused exclusively on buyers; we served as “buyer brokers” to our first clients. This was the first time this had been done in the multihull industry and today, while the approach has been copied, we are still the most prominent practitioners because it is where our passion for sailing meets your dreams for cruising. We work to find the right fit for our sailors so that the match is right for your needs, not The Multihull Company’s. We truly recognize that your satisfaction is the source of our success in the industry.

Here at The Multihull Company our expertise amounts to five circumnavigations. What does that mean for you? Hundreds of mistakes from which you can learn free of charge and pain! When we talk to other listing brokers of multihulls we’ll get the sort of insider information about the boat they simply won’t give you. And we will have people we can go to, whom we trust, to tell us what is really going on with a certain catamaran or trimaran. We do our due diligence with passion. Our job is to protect your interests every step of the way.

It Won’t Cost You A Penny!

The great news is that you can put my company to work for you and it won’t cost you a penny. All we ask for is loyalty and respect. In return, we will search the Seven Seas to find you the perfect multihull at the right price. If we don’t save you time, money, and headaches we haven’t done our job. With our global network we offer several peerless advantages over any other company engaged in multihull sales. As your exclusive buyer’s agent we only ask that you agree to have us present any offers you choose to make on any catamaran or trimaran whether we find it for you or you find it yourself. In return, we promise to save you time, money, headaches, and mistakes. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Phillip Berman, President
The Multihull Company

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.
