She underwent a total refit--interior and exterior-- from 2018 to 2021 with over $300,000 spent.

If you are looking for a fast cruising catamaran with all the amenities that comprise luxury sail cruising, you owe it to yourself to inquire about "Just A Dream".

General Overview

Outremer Catamarans is a world class manufacturer of high-performance sailing catamarans.  They are well known as a premier builder of cruising catamarans offering high quality construction, exhilarating performance, generous cruising amenities and safety.

Built in France, Outremer is well known for providing fast, safe and comfortable passage-making and with numerous ocean crossings and circumnavigations to their credit Outremer enjoys an unexcelled reputation.

This Gerard Danson plan is a reference model for this venerable French catamaran builder.  She is simple to sail, sea safe, with a powerful hull form.  She is comfortable to sail and may be the perfect cat for fast, safe, comfortable blue water cruising.

Outremer’s reputation for building fine, long distance capable multihulls is directly attributable to company founder Danson’s ocean racing experience, for whom safety was paramount.

Outremer has been building sailboats for nearly 20 years in this spirit.  They are designed to sail around the world using the maximum natural potential of the wind’s energy, and with this particular vessel, using the sun’s energy too.

Sailing catamarans typically fall into one of two categories.  At one end of the scale are the “money-no-object” go fast machines, often built extremely light weight using exotic materials like carbon fiber to achieve high speeds and racing machine performance.  A typical 45 footer of this class will often weigh as little as 11,000-12,000 lbs.

On the other end of the scale are the more common “cruising cats” that crowd the harbors comfortably transporting charter guests, but very often providing lackluster sailing performance.  In some cases, these charter type cats are built with little regard for weight and are often loaded down with heavy furniture and equipment.  A comparable 45 foot “L or L type” catamaran may range from 30,000-35,000 lbs.

The Outremers stand alone however.

They are built to fill a smaller, largely unaddressed sector of the catamaran market, designed to offer to a more sophisticated class of sailors a higher level of sailing performance, a comfortable and stable ride with safety and attention to detail foremost.

Outremer is generally understood to hold a unique reputation as the only major catamaran builder offering a balance between these two extremes of comfort aboard and speed at sea.  The Outremer 45 foot Danson design weighs in at only 15,400 pounds.

Catamaran sailing wisdom states that you can have any two of three qualities in a cruising cat: High Performance, Luxury Accommodations/Comfort and Low Price.

“Just a Dream” may be the only cat sailing today to defy this declaration. In her current state she offers the first two qualities at a price below what other high performance cats are offered at today.

To achieve this, Danson’s design essentials incorporate a long waterline, with very narrow hulls below the waterline.  The smaller bridge deck is highly balanced with a low center of gravity, central weight distribution and high buoyancy.  Combined, this achieves minimal hobby horsing, and essentially no contact with waves beneath the bridge-deck commonly referred to on other cats as “slamming”.

With her twin daggerboards, not only will she point higher than comparable cats with the standard fixed keels, but she will exhibit greater speed downwind with her boards retracted for reduced drag.  And daggerboards will always be the safer option when “hauling to” in big seas with the ability to retract the boards and make safe leeway without the potential dragging of the fixed mini keels used on many other builders’ boats.

The Outremer remains light, with little windage and good balance both fore and aft and laterally.

Sailing performance on an Outremer does not come from extra sail area but from reduced drag, better windward ability, more buoyancy in the hulls keeping both bow and stern high and dry.  The rig remains conservative, which makes for a safe and easily handled vessel by shorthanded crew without sacrificing speed or safety.

Outremer’s construction methods differ from many of the production cat builders. An Outremer can take 7-9 months to build.  The hull and deck is solid fiberglass and the vessel is laminated by hand and as a single, solid piece combining hulls and bridge-deck.  Berth supports, shelves and bulkheads all combine to make a unified well supported vessel.  The cabinetry is fitted in with a soft bond of Sikaflex, which contributes to the unified assembly yet offers some flexibility as it is not rigidly bonded as in other vessels.

The result is a very stiff boat that exhibits none of the typical creaking, squeaking or cracking noises often heard in a seaway on other production catamarans. This type of assembly greatly contributes to superior sailing performance.

Outremer built only 40 vessels before 2009.  It is rare to find an Outremer 45 by Danson.  This model is one of the most sought after Outremers within the builders entire line.

She was originally built for her first owners who planned to sail Scotland, and the British Isles as a blue water island cruiser.

Her current and second owners bought her in Scotland and transported her to the US in 2018 by Yacht Transport as deck cargo.

Here in the US “Just A Dream” began a refurbishing that took place from 2018 until 2022 which is now complete.  Her knowledgeable owners upgraded, modified and improved her to a degree rarely seen in the previously owned market.

Just A Dream is a really unique and rare 2007 Outremer 45/47

Her electrical system has been completely upgraded and she has had her power train architecture upgraded to a Hybrid system.  She combines the best of both with her Yanmar diesel 3YM30 Fresh Water Cooled, 29 HP [21kW] engine in the starboard hull, with sail-driveand a powerfulElectric Yacht Quiet-Torque 20kW with sail-drive (27 hp equivalent) in the port hull.

She has an aerodynamic coach roof and hull profile minimizing windage.  She sports an open aft cockpit with retractable bimini and twin helms.

She’s truly a masterpiece of intelligent design providing everything that the experienced yachtsperson will need and nothing that is not needed.

Creature comforts abound combined with exceptional sailing ability and safety.

Just a Dream was refurbished interior and exterior to offer style, comfortable living space and outstanding performance.  She’s a true blue water ocean cruiser with state of the art equipment aboard.

Her twin daggerboards provide more power and lift on all wind directions.  She’ll point with the best of the performance monohulls and at angles very close to the wind.

She’ll achieve speeds upwind of 10 kts at 47degrees TWA in true winds of 15 kts. You’ll be hard pressed to find other cats that provide this level of performance.

Originally built as a 45 foot LOA vessel Just a Dream was lengthened at her bows to 47 feet.  The bows now have a much greater fine entry shape and will pierce a bow wave with very little spray on deck.  With the additional two feet of waterline, she is not only faster and dryer on deck but provides more forward buoyancy, keeping the bows high and dry and further keeping the underwing clear of between hull waves.

Her extensive refit has been done by professionals in Connecticut at the highest level of yacht finish.  All of the disciplines involved (interior, exterior, standing and running rigging, electronics and electrical) have benefited from the same high level of professional quality work.  Well over $300,000 has been spent since she arrived in the US to undertake this refit.

Just a Dream is not only a head turner in any harbor she enters, but she’s an impressive sailing machine on any waterway. She sails well into the double digits in a moderate breeze, and when the wind lightens, her impressive performance really begins to shine as other vessels are cranking up the diesel engines and the Outremer 45/47 is sailing along at speed under sail.

Owners’ change of plans make this unique and amazing Outremer 45/47 available for sale.  This is a turn key investment in a blue water performance sailing vessel that is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

— Jimmy

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

— Beverly Cory

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

— JT

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

— Eric Boutiette

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.
