Steve’s passion for sailing and boats started at the age of 13 when he moved to Plymouth Uk and started competitive dinghy sailing, at 17 years old Steve won a apprenticeship with Princess Yachts where he worked to become a journey-man ships joiner and cabinet-maker, from there he has continuously worked at sea or on boats both in the North Atlantic,Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.
Steve has delivered many new boats for Jeanneau and Lagoon all over Europe and the Caribbean, he has made five transatlantic deliveries as skipper including 4 x 40’+ Catamarans, he has professionally sailed nearly every model of Lagoon catamaran as well as many Fountain Pajot’s, Catana’s and Leopard’s, he has a deep technical knowledge and understanding of yacht systems, navigation technology, hydraulics, electrical and electronic systems.
In 2003 Steve made the move to the Caribbean and started working full time as a professional skipper, he worked for the prestigious Four Seasons resort delivering day and weekend charters and also worked with Nautor Swan Caribbean delivering custom sailing trips to neighboring Islands.
In 2010 Steve returned to Europe and studied for his RYA Instructor exams, he then worked as a Sailing Instructor delivering Yacht-master training courses in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. In February 2012 Steve had the opportunity to take a 36’ sailboat across the Atlantic and start a new sailing school, with many adventures along the way Steve opened up Tortola Sailing school which went on to become the top sail-training provider in the BVI.
In 2016 Steve took over the running of “AdAstra” a well known Lagoon 57 charter boat which he successfully ran with his partner until it sold in 2018, since then Steve has worked full time in the BVI clocking up an average of 250 days a year as a charter skipper, delivery Captain and Instructor. Now in his role as yacht broker with TMC Steve possesses a unique insight and knowledge of the market and trends, so if you are looking to offset some of the costs of running a modern catamaran in a charter fleet or a managed crewed charter Steve is also uniquely placed to advise you on the pro’s and con’s and can help you make an informed decision to decide if that arrangement is right for you.
Steve is an RYA Yacht-master 200GRT Captain, and an RYA, ASA and IYT instructor.
Steve is a classic sailboat enthusiast and owns a custom Colin Archer style gaff rigged cutter that he sails in regattas around the Caribbean.
