With over four decades of experience racing, cruising, buying and selling multihulls, Phillip Berman has seen or personally experienced just about every mistake a sailor can make when buying a new or used catamaran. For the most part, those who wish to avail themselves of the services of The Multihull Company do so by working with Phillip one of our expert brokers in a buyer-broker relationship. In such a relationship the broker is not paid an up-front fee, nor does he charge his client on an hourly basis for services rendered, but simply asks for the strong loyalty of the buyer client. At some point the buyer-broker knows he will gain some commission from the clients purchase (paid for by the seller generally), whether he buys a listing from TMC, or his TMC broker represents him in the purchase of a listing posted by another company.
Many people, however, are more comfortable entering into a consultancy agreement, where they are charged by us on an hourly basis. We have found over the years that those who wish to engage us in this fashion are generally interested in either designing a new catamaran, or having us assist them build her, or advising them on where and how to build her, or the contractual process, etc. There are several areas where can assist in this process, either on an hourly basis, or a percentage of yacht construction cost basis, etc., depending on the outline of obligations.
