“Scout” is an elegant and refined racer/cruiser trimaran from the design board of well-respected multihull designer, builder and sailor, Walter Greene. She was built in fiberglass/carbon composite under the designer’s supervision at his Greene Marine yard in Yarmouth, Maine, USA. In 2003, Greene Marine modified the amas (floats) to increase their displacement. In 2006, a carbon mast with composite shrouds was installed along with an advanced design rudder and mechanical steering system. These refinements further enhanced her already sparkling performance.
“Scout” is a performance boat that will satisfy the “need for speed” of multihull sailors without being so high powered as to be impractical. For those interested in cruising, she offers a seamanlike and fully fitted interior with accommodations for up to four persons. She has benefited from regular yard maintenance and upgrades and is ready to go. |

“Scout”
has a functional, fully fitted and seamanlike interior. Interior
surfaces have a white polyurethane finish with clear polyurethane
finished teak, ash and cherry timber trim. Seating and berth surfaces
are fitted with high quality red Sunbrella upholstered closed-cell and
open-cell foam cushions. The cabin sole is teak and holly. Hand grips
are incorporated into two full-length laminated deck beams in the
cabin.
Vessel Walk-Through
The forepeak has one V-berth with 2 x pipe berths above to port and
starboard. A manual marine head fitted with intake and discharge
seacocks, Y-valve and holding tank is located below the V-berth.
Next aft is the main cabin. There is a single berth to port and to
starboard, each with modest storage under. There is a seat for 2 x
persons to starboard. The aft portion of the main cabin has a
navigation station with hinged Formica top chart table, teak rail and
level storage to port and a galley to starboard.
A companionway ladder leads from the main cabin to the cockpit. The auxiliary engine is below the cockpit.

| Design and Construction |
“Scout”
is an open-wing, aft cockpit trimaran with 2 x crossbeams connecting
the three hulls. She has a vertically retracting daggerboard for
lateral resistance and a tiller-operated kick-up rudder.
The daggerboard is housed in a trunk to starboard of the mast step.
Daggerboard control lines are led aft allowing easy adjustability. The
daggerboard is 11' long and can be lowered about 3' into its 7' trunk.
When fully raised, approximately 3' 6" of daggerboard is exposed above
deck.
The custom rudder (new Spring, 2007) with aluminum stock is fitted
with 2 x new Edson radial drives. The forward radial drive is connected
by substantial aluminum shafting to the custom carbon/wood laminate
tiller. A removable 6' Lewmar tiller extension with hand grip is
included. The aft radial drive sits atop a shaft tube at the transom
that is retained by a line from the cockpit to the waterline, allowing
the rudder to be tilted. The original rudder and stock is available.
The floats (amas) are divided into watertight compartments. Deck
fill fittings permit manual pump access to each void tank. The floats
have never been used for storage and are dry. The floats were rebuilt
in 2003 to provide additional displacement.
Winches and rope clutches are positioned adjacent to the
companionway and offer excellent solo and short-handed sailing without
exit from the cockpit.
Hulls and decks are constructed of fiberglass/carbon composite. The
hulls are painted white and the decks are painted gull grey with
substantial non-skid. The companionway, splash rail, steering platform
edges and cockpit floor are trimmed with teak. |
