Electrical System
Electricity is supplied by four to ten maintenance-free and high-capacity house batteries (155 Ah each) and two dedicated engine batteries. Theses battery banks are charged by the two alternators, the solar panels ( 4 to 16 ) or by the shore line, thanks to a powerful charger.
The whole system is equipped with electrical coupling separators which charge in priority the engine batteries. The AC current (110 or 200 volts) is supplied through the inverter. The cabling is “remote power” type, with relay boxes throughout the boat. This system greatly improves reliability, facilitates maintenance and reduces the number of connections, as the length and weight of cabling required. All connections are protected with a waterproof, heat-resistant coating. Pressurized fresh water is guaranteed by two 1000 W water-heaters, running on 22V, and on the engine cooling system.
The Engines
The two standard diesel in-board engines give you a high
cruising speed. The narrow Catana hulls
optimize the speed/consumption ratio. The possibility of motoring with only one
of the two engines, means 50 per cent longer engine life and range, and increases security. By having an engine
in each hull, you can pivot the boat around by putting one engine ahead and the
other in reverse. The engines are
totally separate from the accommodations, in watertight compartments,
protecting you from any smell and noise.
The sound insulation of the engine rooms is so efficient that the engine noise is less than that of water lapping against the hulls, whether you’re in a cabin or in the cockpit!
The two three-blade propellers are highly efficient. They automatically fold as soon as you start sailing. These features from the conception of a Catana provide you with high average speeds, without any effort, and improve comfort and safety.
