Here is large, beautiful cat that offers a rare combination of features for the voyaging yachtsman: an aluminum hull for unparalleled strength and robustness, daggerboards to improve upwind performance, a very large salon with galley-up providing all the amenities of a modern production cat, a refined interior finish and some very elegant lines that belie its aluminum construction.
The boat was built with Sealium marine grade aluminum by Alcan Industries imported from France and a much higher grade than the standard 5083 marine grade; Sealium is much more corrosion and electrolysis resistant. I have yet to see an interior layout which works better on a cat this size -- two of the four double cabins have king size beds and en suite head/shower and the other two beds are at least as big as you would see on any other cat (queen). The owner opted for just sinks in the two aft cabins with the third head/shower being in the main salon which also acts as a wet locker. The back wall of the head works well as a mounting for the 32" flat screen TV.
The boat is equally well suited for chartering or blue water sailing with plenty of room for a family. She sails great -- the owner had her doing a comfortable 3.5 knots in 4 to 5 knots of true wind. In stronger winds she has seen speeds in excess of 18 knots. With a double reefed main she hit 13.5 knots on a beam reach a few days ago with about 22 to 24 knots on the beam.
If someone was interested in putting her into charter in Thailand, the earning potential per annum is around $150,000 US. High season starts early December and it could be worth mentioning that one could easily get $80 to 100,000 between then and end of high season in May if they started to take bookings soon. The cat is built to CE standards in case anyone wants to bring her to Europe with escape hatches in each hull under the stairs and all equipment CE rated. |
