Catana 521 - “NO REHEARSAL ”

Catana 521 - “NO REHEARSAL ”

Price reduced to $ 895.000. Excellent opportunity on this superb Catana 52

CATANA 521 #8 (4 Double Cabin en suite Owners Layout) launched Nov 2003 and used in the fresh water of Holland's inland sea until sold to the present owners in 2008. Jersey Registered and Flagged (Certificate of British Registry).

I have been involved in the marketing and sale of several Catana 52s in the last five years. NO REHEARSAL stands out as the most comprehensively equipped and meticulously maintained. NO REHEARSAL started life in privileged fashion: she was built by Dominique Marsaudon at Catana's Lorient yard in 2003. This is no ordinary Catana therefore as Marsaudon is the Mozart of composites, best known for having built several racing (IDEC, GROUPAMA) and cruising multihulls in what is the capital of French multihull sailing.

I have known the current owners of NO REHEARSAL for a number of years and have visited the yacht on several occasions as she travelled the Caribbean and US East Coast. Seldom have I met such passionate, knowledgeable yachtsmen who know what it takes to sail a blue-water cat efficiently and to maintain it at the highest level. Hailing from New Zealand, the owners have owned several cats, are accomplished sail-makers and have brought years of multihull experience to bear in the specification of this exquisite yacht.

NO REHEARSAL has had only one previous owner from new and has never chartered. She's set up to circumnavigate and has everything needed for an ocean crossing from World wide internet and communications down to ocean passaging pilot books for the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

History...This Catana 521 was launched November 2003 but not used by the original owner until the spring of 2004 when it was delivered to Holland and Europe's largest fresh water lake. She had not been greatly used when sold to the current owners in 2008. They fitted masses of new equipment in 2009/10 for her crossing of the Atlantic. In the last year alone she had more than $80,000 spent in upgrades and new equipment and been continuously upgraded. New Main & Genoa Sails and new Suncode Bimini just installed.

Style...This is probably one of the best looking catamarans around, in her vibrant "Sunflower & Parchment" livery, her tasteful soft furnishings complete the package…put simply, she's eye catching by any standard. With her discrete lighting throughout, even at night, she is outstanding in every respect. She has underwater lights to see the marine life, aft floodlights and step lights that guide you safely back to the transom after being ashore & a powerful deck flood provides extra security.

Catana… Legendary design, performance, quality, comfort and safety (unsinkable), and being less than 30ft wide this opens up many more opportunities for haul-out and seasonal storage in out of the way places. The Catana 52s high bridge-deck compared with many other catamarans gives the smoother ride and daggerboards provide superior windward performance with the advantage of shallow draft. Its also "cool" in terms of its design and natural ventilation through generous sized, well-placed hatches. Catana 52s provide high performance ocean passaging in safety & comfort with uncluttered decks and efficient handling systems… it's so easy for a couple to handle such a large volume cat with bow thruster, powerful Volvo engines (on shaft not saildrives) and electric winches for sail handling and launch and recovery of inflatables.

Performance & Handling…This 521 easily achieves double digits: as an example, the owners and their two children crossed the Atlantic in 2010 in absolute comfort and safety in less than 12 days recording a top speed of more than 18 knots. NO REHEARSAL has recorded a highest speed of 23.4 knots. The owners chose the 521 in 2008 as probably the best and largest catamaran that any couple could comfortably handle and maintain with ease, without the need of crew. It's also economical to motor at 7 knots on 1 engine, cruise along with both at 8+ Knots and has a top speed of 10 Knots.

Safety First…A full suite of Furuno equipment including 2 x 3D displays (one at inside navigation station, the other at the starboard helm), AIS (send and receive) high resolution digital radar and forward looking color sonar for reef spotting. Backup provided by two Autopilots and then there is a fog horn/loud hailer, alarm systems for wind & shift, 2 depth sounders and even a brand new and un-used spare 11ft Avon inflatable and 10HP 4 stroke Honda outboard should you be unlucky enough to loose the main tender and outboard.

Worldwide Communications…Phone/fax and Internet access via the Thrane & Thrane (Sailor) Fleet Broadband 250 is brilliant. As backup/emergency a brand new Icom 802 and Pactor Modem for weather info, Grib Files and Sailmail and finally a "Bullet" mast head aerial for WiFi when near shore - all this gives you what you need in a matter of seconds. There is also Sony Vaio Laptop dedicated for on board use and specifically set up for use with the Fleet Broadband.

Equipped to circumnavigate…This seriously equipped "Sailors' Cat" is set up for long distance ocean/Trade Wind cruising at it's very best. With it's uniquely "Modified Bowsprit & additional Whisker Stays" to accommodate a sail wardrobe of "Five Head Sails" for all conditions, it can honestly be described as a offshore sailors dream catamaran.

Upgrades & Special Equipment… Bow thruster (Sleipner) - a very unusual feature on a cat, Deluxe helms & seats, Carbon fibre mast & high spec sails, Jumbo showers amidships, 4x Vacuflush Fresh Water heads, Air Conditioning plus 2 Eberspacher Hydronic Central heating (Diesel/24v) and large water heaters, Flexofold props, a full set of “Clears” completely weather proof the cockpit area and provide extra heated living space in cool weather. Helm covers for protection when stored ashore. Bauer Dive compressor, Boarding Passarelle ladder...etc etc.

Backups… In edition to the equipment above…Not one, but two inflatables and two outboards... all as new.

Catana 52 vs Catana 50...There are some key points to be taken into consideration when comparing the Catana 52s and Catana 50s: the 52s are a much larger catamaran (at least 20% more interior volume), more comfortable, perform at least as well as the 50s, and have a much higher bridge deck clearance for a smoother ride. Importantly kept below the 30 feet beam mark makes for easier haul out. The Catana 521 has a mass of large portholes for good ventilation and huge volume for massive storage space under all bunks, saloon seating and hanging lockers in every cabin, plus huge lockers on deck and in the cockpit. These points ensure the 52s are still a firm favorite.

If you are in the market for a genuine blue-water cruiser in mint condition, you owe it to yourself to consider NO REHEARSAL carefully. Please contact Alexis for more information and to arrange a viewing with our local broker.
