Catana 471

Catana 471

This Catana 471 is a beautiful example of an owner’s version Catana 471 with several Catana upgrades when built as well as a number of equipment improvements. She was built with the upgraded and improved Alucarbon mast with self-tacking Solent and bow sprit with Code O headsail. The interior wood is the upgraded maintenance-free Cherry veneer with teak trim. Other custom Catana upgrades include a clothes bureau in lieu of the desk in the owner’s hull and a very practical office in the port aft cabin that easily converts to a single or double berth stateroom. And since Catana rudders are deeper than the hulls, skegs which were developed for the Catana 472 CALIGO were installed for rudder protection. She has constantly received upgrades to her equipment. A complete list of inventory and dates of upgrades is listed in the full spec section as well as additional comments. VAT Paid!

Additional Specs, Equipment and Information

CONSTRUCTION :

The two outer hull molds and one inner hull/bridge-deck mold are vacuum bagged using vinylester resin, cored with PVC closed cell foam with unidirectional cloth for outer laminate & Twaron aramid cloth for inner laminate.

The separately molted daggerboard trunks are laminated to be seven times stronger than the daggerboards. All 21 structural bulkheads are cored with Nidacore honeycomb core with carbon fiber on both sides. The spade rudders have self-adjusting JP3 bushings with Whitlock rack and pinion steering.

The deck/coach-roof is a one piece mold, vacuum-bagged using vinylester resin, cored with Nidacore honeycomb with unidirectional cloth for outer laminate and Twaron aramide cloth for inner laminate, and molted pattern non-skid decks.

The deck to hull joint is bonded by fiberglass creating a seamless waterproof and rigid structure. In addition, this particular Catana 471 was built with the skegs used on the Catana 472 Caligo series to protect the rudders from an accidental grounding.

In 2010 all bottom paint was removed down to the gel coat and two layers of Interprotect 2000 epoxy barrier coat was applied, followed by four layers of the epoxy based Coppercoat antifouling paint, professionally applied.

All sails controls (except the spinnaker) are easily managed from the safety of the cockpit.
