“Varekai” is a very lightly used and well-equipped example of the high quality PDQ 32 Altair Classic cruising catamaran. She was the last PDQ 32 built. “Varekai” was delivered in September, 2003 and has been sailed for only two summer seasons exclusively in the fresh waters of Lake Erie. She has been winterized and stored ashore under shrink wrap each winter, so her environmental exposure has been minimal.
“Varekai” is the twin outboard version of the PDQ 32, which is the writer’s preferred configuration for this design. The outboard version has the benefits of lighter weight, retractable running gear, quiet and smooth operation and low maintenance costs.
“Varekai” has an extensive list of equipment which makes her very suitable for long-term live aboard cruising. She’s currently ashore and viewing is convenient.
High quality cruising catamarans in this size range are comparatively rare, especially one that’s so nearly new. “Varekai” is for sale only because her owner’s have been transferred to the West coast. She probably won’t last long so don’t delay. |

| Interior |
“Varekai’s” interior is bright, airy and easy on the eyes. She is fully outfitted for long-range cruising or live aboard use. “Varekai” has the PDQ Altair Classic layout with two private double cabins providing full-sized beds, a roomy salon, full galley, navigation station and head with shower. She sleeps up to 6 people with the use of the convertible berth in the salon. The interior finish is fiberglass with all cabinetry in cherry veneers and solid cherry trim. Seating and berth surfaces are upholstered. Salon flooring is fiberglass with a custom multi-tone navy Berber carpet with navy rope trim over. The cabin sole in the hulls is teak and holly. Window shades, throw rugs and wastebaskets are included
Vessel Walk-Through Entry from the cockpit is through a well-designed full-width sliding hatchway leading to the salon. This entry arrangement offers the shade and protection of a pilothouse while retaining an outdoorsy ambience. The salon features a dinette with a solid cherry table mounted on a pneumatic lift. The table provides comfortable dining for 6 people and folds down when desired,. The pneumatic support allows easy lowering for converting the salon area to additional sleeping space. The U-shaped settee surrounding the table is custom upholstered in Nile Blue UltraLeather fabric with button tufted ergonomic seat backs and knee bolster.
Steps on the port and starboard sides of the salon lead down into the hulls. The aft sections of both hulls contain mirror image private double cabins with full size athwartships berths. The berths use standard full-size bedding. The mattresses are upgraded to 3” high density plus 3” low density foam with cover, foam pad mattress cover and 2 x foam pillows. Each sleeping cabin has a hanging locker and storage bins.
The remainder of the port hull is devoted to the galley. Galley equipment is described in the next section.
The amidships section of the starboard hull contains the navigation station. This area is equipped with a cherry chart table, electrical panel, stereo/CD, remote VHF, chart storage, inverter control panel and chart reading light. There is also a hanging locker in this area.
The forward section of the starboard hull contains the private head. Equipment includes a Jabsco manual head, shower with hot and cold pressurized water and sump pump and sink. There is also a Nicro day/night solar vent fan, mirror, towel racks and 2 x Cherry storage cabinets. |
