according to the very specific needs of a yacht for both private and
owner’s use, Magic Cat was designed in exactly the same way as a racing
one-off. Her hulls were tank tested and the yard applied rigorous
control over the materials and a strict analysis of the weights of all
elements. The platform (hulls, beams and bridgedeck) were built in
carbon fibre, and oven cured in a vacuum bag. Today such method is the
expression of the most advanced technology for obtaining light and
strong structures.
Moreover, Magic Cat’s rig benefits directly from feedback gleaned from ocean racing. She has a spreaderless carbon fibre wing mast anchored on carbon chainplates (with Kevlar shrouds). All these parts were entirely made by the Multiplast yard. The result, Magic Cat is one of the fastest cruising yachts in the world. She is capable of sailing faster than the true wind, reaching a speed of 20 knots in only 18 (33km/h) knots of wind. And the speedometer can often be seen beyond 25 knots (46km/h). And in light airs, she is indecently fast thanks to the extremely controlled weight of the interior fittings and equipment that is obviously consequent on a vessel of this type. With just 5 knots (9km/h) of wind, the catamaran is capable of sailing at 9 knots (17km/h). Indeed, never before has a cruising yacht sailed so fast, and all that in total comfort and perfect safety. Magic cat went just to end a three year long voyage round the world after having cruised the Atlantic, Panama, the Galapagos islands, Polynesia, and in New Zealand (America's Cup) ; thus the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea and back in the Mediterranean via the Suez canal. She is now back in the West Indies. For the Multiplast, she is a perfect illustration of its capacity to fulfil a cruising project just as well as a competition one, from the initial design study to the final technical adjustments. | |

que lancé en 1996 avec près de 100 000 milles au loch, ce multicoque de
25 mètres est l’une des réalisations les plus significatives de
Multiplast en terme de catamaran de croisière.
Conçu selon les volontés très spécifiques d’une société de charter exigeante, Magic Cat a fait l’objet d’un contrôle rigoureux dans la maîtrise et le calcul du poids de tous les éléments. La plate- forme centrale par exemple, a été construite en fibres de carbone et polymérisée sous vide. Ce qui est aujourd’hui l’expression de la technologie la plus performante pour obtenir une structure légère et solide. Par ailleurs, le gréement de Magic Cat bénéficie directement des enseignements tirés de la course au large. Il est doté d’un mât aile en carbone sans barre de flèche, ancré sur des cadènes en carbone (avec des haubans en Kevlar). Toutes ces pièces ont été réalisées par le chantier Multiplast. Résultat, Magic Cat est l’un des yachts de croisière les plus rapides de la planète. Il est capable de naviguer plus vite que le vent réel, en atteignant une vitesse de 20 noeuds (37 km/h) quand le vent ne souffle qu’à 18 noeuds (33 km/h). Et le speedomètre grimpe souvent au-delà de 25 noeuds (46 km/h). Dans le petit temps, il affiche des performances insolentes grâce à une extrême maîtrise du poids des aménagements forcément conséquents sur une unité de ce type. Avec 5 noeuds (9 km/h) de vent, le catamaran file déjà à 9 noeuds (17 km/h). En fait, jamais un catamaran de croisière n’avait été aussi rapide, le tout dans un confort et une sécurité parfaite. Enfin, en dessinant des dérives profondes au profil très étudié, Multiplast a su contourner l’une des faiblesses traditionnelles du catamaran de croisière, à savoir la navigation contre le vent. Ces appendices high-tech permettent à Magic Cat d’avoir des performances d’un niveau équivalent aux meilleurs monocoques. Magic Cat vient de terminer un tour du monde de trois ans après avoir croisé en Atlantique, Panama, aux Galápagos, en Polynésie, en Nouvelle Zélande (America's Cup), dans l'Océan Indien, en Mer Rouge et retour en Méditerranée par le Canal de Suez. Il est actuellement de retour aux Antilles.
